Tee Up Fore TEACH Hits Winning Round

(HOUSTON, TEXAS, June 5, 2021) – The rain held off on Saturday, June 5, making it a great day at the bays for over 200 golfers at Tee Up Fore TEACH, hosted at Topgolf Katy. The event raised more than $320,000 for To Educate All Children (TEACH), a locally based non-profit that provides training and coaching to Houston educators. Event chairs Phyllis and Cornel Williams and honorary chair Chuck Jenness were thrilled by the event’s success and the opportunity to welcome friends of TEACH to the organization’s first in-person event in over a year. An online pre-event auction chaired by Amber Elliott and Lauren Randle raised over $85,000 to contribute toward the goal.

Major sponsors included Susan and Fayez Sarofim, the Astros Foundation, Opportune LLP, RSM and Modern Luxury Houston. Guests had the chance to browse the silent auction and raffle and practice their swings before the tournament began. Everyone took their best shot, but top prizes went to the team from Opportune LLP and team Red Hot For TEACH, captained by Rosemary Schatzman. Guests also took a swing at auction and raffle prizes including a round of golf at Bluejack National, a tea set by Tiffany & Co., several wine cellars and a Date Night with Dom at Steak 48.

TEACH Executive Director Alvin Abraham closed the program with thanks to sponsors and guests and a special thanks to the educators who have worked so hard to educate kids during this unprecedented last year and a half.

“We want to make sure teachers have the tools they need to help students succeed,” said Abraham. “TEACH looks forward to fall when our program team can once again join educators and students in their classrooms.”

Founded in 2005 by businesswoman Susan Sarofim and educator Mary Yenik, TEACH seeks to achieve greater equity in education by empowering teachers to create classrooms where deep learning can occur for all students. Proceeds of the Tee Up Fore TEACH event and auction will enable the organization to serve approximately 1,000 educators at 20 HISD partner schools, reaching over 12,000 students.
