Meet Lauren Latinkic

TEACH Development Coordinator

Lauren grew up playing teacher, reflecting the admiration she felt for her own educators, who made a lasting impact. While her math teachers were among her favorites, it was her first-grade teacher that first demonstrated to Lauren the importance of nurturing relationships. While her educational journey would lead her to earn a marketing degree rather than one in education, Lauren has never lost sight of teachers’ importance and of her own commitment to give back.

As TEACH’s Development Coordinator, Lauren utilizes her relationship-building and event-planning skills to maintain ongoing engagement with TEACH’s donors and to execute year-round fundraising events. Knowing that her work has a direct impact on thousands of Houston students provides Lauren with a strong sense of purpose, and she is enthusiastic about spreading the word about TEACH’s meaningful work. A Houston native, she enjoys spending as much time as possible exploring the outdoors and surrounding herself with friends and family.

TEACH: What do you love most about working in education?
LL: Making a difference on a big scale and being part of something that’s greater than myself. I love working in education because I am making an impact on our future generation. These kids have such bright futures ahead of them and to be able to make a difference and helping them achieve their dreams and goals is rewarding. Also, being able to help teachers is such a gift. They put in a lot of time and have a huge impact on the lives of children. Being able to help them is just as important and rewarding!

TEACH: Who do you consider one of the great teachers in your life and why?
LL: My first-grade teacher, Mrs. Grubbs, was my favorite. She made education and learning fun. She was one of the first teachers who really put in the effort to build relationships with her students. She always let us eat lunch with her and get to know us on a personal level. Relationship building has always stood out to me.

TEACH: What are you most looking forward to at TEACH this year?
LL: The gala, TEACH’s biggest event, will be exciting to work on and help with. Getting to see everything that goes into it and making it a successful event so that TEACH can continue to do what it does best by helping students and teachers. I’m also eager to learn more about the educational system and see the impact that TEACH is making first-hand.
