Welcome to TEACH Talks, Featuring Millard House II, Superintendent of Schools – Houston Independent School District (HISD)
For the latest episode of our TEACH Talks interview series, we’re joined by HISD Superintendent of Schools Millard House II. Superintendent House joined the school district in June 2021 after a unanimous vote by HISD’s Board of Education. In this role, he now leads 276 schools in Texas’s largest school district.
Superintendent House’s more than 25 years of experience in education prior to joining HISD is impressive by any measure, including serving as one of the nation’s youngest public-school administrators at age 26; being named Tulsa Public Schools’ Principal of the Year in 2003 and Tennessee Mid-Cumberland Superintendent of the Year in 2021; and founding a high-performing college preparatory school in one of Tulsa’s most underserved neighborhoods.
Our time with Superintendent House was incredibly enlightening and equally inspiring. He has his eye unflinchingly focused on creating a viable, strategic plan for HISD, which, in turn, gives kids in our community the chance for better, brighter futures. We are extremely honored to count on such a strong champion of public education here in our Houston community.
