HOUSTON (March 10, 2020) – High energy from the over 150 educators and supporters at the annual Huddle Up for TEACH event made for an entertaining evening at Saint Arnold Brewing Company. It was a great way to mix and mingle after a day of teaching and to mark the final countdown to spring break next week.
Balloons and activity stations around the room enticed everyone to visit and learn more about the classroom management strategies offered by TEACH – To Educate All Children. Guests participated at stations led by TEACH coaches for an opportunity to win exciting prizes. DJ Gonz spun the tunes to keep the evening lively.
Nory Angel, Executive Director and CEO for TEACH, emphasized the impact everyone in the room is having on the nearly 15,000 students at 25 Houston ISD schools where educators are currently receiving intensive training and coaching in de-escalation and conflict resolution to promote calmer and more productive classrooms, to decrease disciplinary referrals,
Co-founders Susan D. Sarofim and Mary Yenik were applauding as Brandalyn Hare, a kindergarten teacher at Blackshear Elementary, a landmark school in the Third Ward community for over a century, spoke about how TEACH strategies have transformed her classrooms. Special Guest Nick Martin, starting center for the Houston Texans, shared a story about his favorite teacher and the impact he had on his education.
