Meet Jada Dozier-Johnson, Ms. Ed.

TEACH Program Manager

While she never considered becoming an educator, Jada’s post-college experience at City Year, an education-based nonprofit, sparked a newfound interest. Seeing first-hand the impact she could have on students and on classroom environments impassioned her about pursuing a career in public education. Since earning her Master of Education from Texas A&M University-Commerce in 2017, Jada has served as a grade team lead and fourth-grade math teacher, most recently at Spring ISD, before joining TEACH in 2023 as a Program Manager.

Committed to nurturing meaningful relationships, Jada is intent on serving as a trusted resource for the campuses she serves. She is especially fulfilled by the opportunity to create meaningful change in classrooms and to be able to provide educators with the support she didn’t always count on as a teacher herself. When she’s not working, Jada, a Georgia native, enjoys exploring Houston and taking in new experiences around the city. A lover of all things music, she also finds multiple ways to remain creative.

TEACH: What do you love most about working in education?
JJ: The relationships. It’s all about building sustainable and lasting relationships. Creating those with teachers and being able to support them in so many ways – and not just with teachers but with community stakeholders as well. It gives you a glimpse into how schools and classrooms operate and how you can support them.

TEACH: Is there a particular moment during your time at TEACH that stands out?
JJ: Joining a smaller team like TEACH’s has been a really nice surprise. I’m most impressed by the amount of intentionality this team provides. The whole experience feels tailor-made. We consistently show up and make everyone we work with feel taken care of and supported. There’s also a high expectation for excellence – and it’s about being just as you are.

TEACH: Who do you consider one of the great teachers in your life and why?
JJ: I had so many great teachers! If I had to choose just one, I’d say Mrs. Maynard. She was my music teacher all through elementary school. In Kindergarten, as we were all being issued our recorders, she told me that I could sing. From then on, she cultivated that gift in me and ensured that I used it beyond the classroom. She could’ve allowed me to just play the recorder with the rest of the kids, but she didn’t. She nurtured my gift, taking me out of the classroom to practice, introducing me to new music and making it possible for me to perform. It was because of Ms. Maynard that music continues to be a part of my life. Because she cared so deeply about my gift, she also allowed me to soar in my academics, too.
